Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do?

You don’t need to take any action, apart from reviewing your e-mail passwords. Please see the announcement about password security.

Will my SiteSuite webmail password change?

On 14 December 2009, we will be improving password security for all e-mail accounts. If your e-mail password doesn't contain a mix of letters and numbers and is less than eight characters long, or is easy to crack (e.g., your mailbox name plus 01), then it will be reset when we upgrade services on 14 December. We strongly recommend reviewing all e-mail passwords before 14 December and changing them if necessary. Please see the announcement about password security.

What is webmail?

When you are in the office, you may be using a desktop e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird or Apple Inc.’s Mail. With desktop programs such as MS Outlook, e-mails are downloaded to your PC or Mac.

When you are away from the office, you can still send and receive e-mails by using a webmail program such as SiteSuite’s Webmail.

You may have used other webmail programs such as Gmail, Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail. Just like Gmail and Hotmail, SiteSuite’s Webmail program allows you to access your e-mails from any computer with an Internet connection. You access webmail through a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera) instead of opening a desktop program (e.g., MS Outlook). Webmail is simply a handy way of accessing your e-mail account when you are on the go.

Do I have to use webmail?

No. If you are more comfortable using a desktop e-mail program such as MS Outlook, you can continue to use that. Webmail is just an extra option you can take advantage of when you are away from the office.

How do I know if SiteSuite hosts my e-mail accounts?

Within your website administration area, you should have a section for managing e-mail accounts.

If SiteSuite doesn’t host my e-mail accounts, will the upgrade affect me?

No. The upgrade only relates to e-mail accounts that are hosted by SiteSuite.

Important Security Announcement: E-mail Passwords

As it is becoming common for hackers to target e-mail accounts, we are improving the password security of all our clients’ e-mail accounts. If your e-mail password doesn’t contain a mix of letters and numbers and is less than 8 characters long, or is easy to crack (e.g. your mailbox name plus 01), then it will be reset when we upgrade our e-mail services on 14 December 2009.

If your e-mail password fails an elementary ‘e-mail hacker’ test, then it will be automatically reset. No e-mails will be lost following this review.

To pass the test, your e-mail password must:

If your password passes this test, we won’t change it.

If your password is weak and is reset on 14 December, you will need to log into the administration area of your website to reset your e-mail password to one of your choosing. We strongly recommend reviewing all e-mail passwords before 14 December 2009 and changing them if necessary.

This won’t affect your website administration password; we are only resetting weak e-mail passwords.

If you have any concerns or are unsure how to change your e-mail password, please follow the link below for instructions, or e-mail us at support@sitesuite.com.au, or call our support team for instructions.

Redundant Mailbox Deletion

As part of the Webmail upgrade, we’ll be checking all unused e-mail accounts. If an account is not used to forward mail and has not been used to collect mail for a period of two years, the mailbox will be deactivated. After a further period of 30 days, it will be deleted. This action will be taken to improve system security.
